NAPLAN during COVID-19

Dear Parents/Guardians,

You might already be aware that on Friday 20th March 2020, the Education Council, which is comprised of the Federal and State Education Ministers, made the decision to cancel the scheduled 2020 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assessments due to the disruption caused by the global COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

At Staughton College teachers use a range of evidence to determine the level at which students are currently achieving, and what they are ready to learn next. Our preparation for NAPLAN focuses on improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills, as well as their stamina, rather than ‘teaching to the test’ itself. The preparation students have already undertaken has provided opportunities for them to develop these skills which are vital for achieving success during their time at the College.

The situation with the global COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented and rapidly evolving. We urge members of our school community to follow the advice issued by the Department of Health to stay healthy and safe.

Kind regards,

Rachel Wilson
