At Staughton College, we believe in using assessment to guide and enhance teaching and learning in our classrooms. Our teachers regularly assess student progress and use this data to tailor lessons to each student’s needs.
Students also reflect on their own learning and, through conferences with their teachers, set challenging yet achievable goals for improvement. Throughout the year, students and families receive an Interim Report each term, offering insights into learning progress and attitudes.
These reports highlight areas of strength and focus for growth. Additionally, two End of Semester reports show students’ progress according to the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards, alongside their learning attitudes.
We value effort, growth, and improvement at Staughton College. To track literacy and numeracy growth, we conduct PAT testing annually. These standardised, adaptive tests assess students’ understanding and skill level in reading and maths.
What we celebrate most is the learning growth students show, regardless of their starting point. Teachers use PAT data to plan lessons that match students’ readiness, and it helps guide pathways counselling for Year Ten students as they move into senior years.
By tailoring instruction to meet each student where they are, we provide opportunities for success and growth. We also host four Parent Teacher Student Conferences each year, giving students and families a chance to discuss learning progress and set goals with teachers. We encourage all students to attend these conferences, reflect on their progress, and set meaningful goals for the future.
